why would folks work with a sex therapist?
Sex therapy is based on the understanding that a person’s unique sexual, gender, and relationship expression is something to be affirmed, and that we are all normal.
Sexuality is a complex and important part of life, and you may not have a comfortable space to explore your feelings or questions about this with another person. A sex therapy session creates this safe, confidential, and non-judgmental time and space for anything that is on your mind.

some common topics:
difficulty with orgasm
exploration of sexual interests, including kink
curiosity around consensual non-monogamy (CNM), interest in opening up a relationship
OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder) and sexuality

What happens in a sesion? how long does treatment last?
A sex therapy session looks a lot like a standard therapy session.
We will explore what brings you to therapy, and identify your goals and desired outcomes. We will take a sexual history, and learn about the ways the environment impacts how you experience your sexuality. We will explore a number of systems to help us understand how you express certain parts of yourself -
family, cultural, political, educational, oppressive, social, religious, and more
We will discuss possible biological considerations, and provide referrals to work in collaboration with medical professionals if useful. Some of these professionals might be pelvic floor occupational therapists, urologists, gynecologists, midwives, or other therapists.
There is never any physical contact between therapist and client. Sex therapists adhere to strict ethical codes of conduct.
The length of treatment is based on your goals, and the ways we decide to support you in reaching them. This is a collaborative conversation we will have together and agree upon when starting treatment.
Everyone is different, and every sex therapy journey is unique.
